Iris – Siri clone for Android OSPosted by in Gadgets
Three days ago, the programmer Narayan Babu and his team Dexetra has released Iris (that’s right, Iris came from Siri, spelled backward), a virtual assistant like Siri (for the Iphone 4S) for the Android phones using Android 2.1 (Eclair) and up. There are no specific requirements for it. Just install and have fun.
The creators of this app, have nothing to do with Google, they are a small private group from India. They said:
When we started to see results, each of us became so excited that I started a race against time to write code. We added in a flash the Voice Input, Text-to-speech, and also a lot of humorous phrases in Iris. We decided the name “Iris.” Only in the late evening, or the Syrians on the contrary. And we also created the crazy acronym – Intelligent Rival imitator of the Syrians. We were having fun, but when we started using it seriously, the results were good, very good.
The creation of this app took just 8 hours, but the developers are updating it daily and adding new features. In just three days, the app got 58,000 downloads from Android market.
Iris is slower than Siri and it’s not as accurate, but you can discuss with her on issues of science, history and culture. General knowledge information are taken from Wikipedia, but Iris is not good on math. It not even know how much is 5+5. However, there is enough time for improvements.
Iris can be downloaded for free from the Android Market here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dexetra.iris
Also, don’t forget that the first Android’s app for voice actions, similar to Siri, was released one year ago and can be downloaded here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pannous.voice.actions.free
